51 Hypothetical outflow of oil – Location of valves

  51.1 Valves or other closing arrangements located in accordance with the provisions of MARPOL Annex I, regulation 25.3.3, may be treated in a manner similar to the treatment of suction wells as per MARPOL regulation 12A.10 and, therefore, arranged at a distance from the ship’s bottom of not less than h/2.

  51.2 In addition to being not excessive in area, the size of the suction wells mentioned in MARPOL Annex I, regulation 25.3.3, should be appropriate to the size of the suction pipe and area covered.
