In applying regulation
12A of MARPOL Annex I to column-stabilized units (MODUs) as
defined in the MODU Code, for the purpose of placing the oil fuel
tanks, the location limitations of paragraphs 7 and 8 of the regulation
apply to those areas subject to damage as follows:

.1 only those columns, underwater hulls and braces
on the periphery of the unit shall be assumed to be damaged and the
damage shall be assumed in the exposed portions of the columns, underwater
hulls and braces;

.2 columns and braces shall be assumed to be damaged
at any level between 5.0 m above and 3.0 m below the range of draughts
in the MODUs operating manual for normal and severe weather operations;
and
-
.3 underwater hull and footings shall be assumed
to be damaged when operating in a transit condition in the same manner
as indicated in .1 and .2, having regard to their shape.
