1 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its ninetieth
session (16 to 25 May 2012), with a view to ensuring a uniform approach
towards the application of the provisions of paragraph
1.2.2.6 of the International Life-saving Appliance (LSA) Code,
and following a recommendation made by the Sub-Committee on Ship Design
and Equipment, at its fifty-sixth session, approved the following
unified interpretations concerning lifeboat exterior colour, taking
into account sections 4.5.2 and 4.6.2 of
the LSA Code:
-
"Highly visible colour" only includes colours of strong
chromatic content, i.e. pure achromatic colours such as white and
all shades of grey should not be accepted as "comparable" colours.
-
The above is applicable to the exterior of the rigid watertight
enclosure of totally enclosed lifeboats and the exterior of the canopy
of partially enclosed lifeboats.
2 Member Governments are invited to use the interpretation
from 21 May 2012 when applying the relevant provisions of paragraph 1.2.2.6 of the LSA Code and to bring
it to the attention of all parties concerned.
