The Assembly

 RECALLING Article 15(j) of the Convention on the International Maritime Organization concerning the functions of the Assembly in relation to regulations and guidelines concerning maritime safety,

 RECALLING ALSO that, by Resolution A.472(XII), it adopted an Improved Recommendation on Test Method for Qualifying Marine Construction Materials as Non-Combustible,

 RECOGNIZING FURTHER the need to improve test procedures for determining whether materials meet the requirements for non-combustible materials as specified in the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974, as amended, as well as in the Torremolinos Protocol of 1993 relating to the Torremolinos International Convention for the Safety of Fishing Vessels, 1977 (1993 Torremolinos Protocol),

 TAKING INTO ACCOUNT ISO Standard 1182 "Fire Test - Building Materials -Non-combustibility Test", 3rd edition, published on 1 December 1990,

 HAVING CONSIDERED the recommendation made by the Maritime Safety Committee at its sixty-third session,

  1. ADOPTS the Revised Recommendation on Test Methods for Qualifying Marine Construction Materials as Non-Combustible set out in the Annex to the present resolution;

  2. INVITES all Governments concerned to apply the Revised Recommendation in complying with the requirement contained in the 1974 SOLAS Convention, as amended, as well as in the 1993 Torremolinos Protocol;

  3. REQUESTS the Maritime Safety Committee to continue work on this subject with a view to further improving the test method;

  4. REVOKES Resolution A.472(XII).
