9.1 Travelling lifting appliances

9.1.1 Lifting appliances or their components (e.g. engine room cranes or trolleys) which travel along a track or rails shall be provided with a rack and pinion arrangement or alternative means of ensuring that an uncontrolled movement along the track or rails is prevented. Alternative proposals will be specially considered.
