(1) Sidescuttles to spaces below the working deck
and to spaces within the enclosed structures on that deck shall be
fitted with hinged deadlights capable of being closed watertight.
(2) No sidescuttle shall be fitted in such a position
that its sill is less than 500 mm above the deepest operating waterline.
(3) Sidescuttles fitted less than 1,000 mm above
the deepest operating waterline shall be of the fixed type.
(4) Sidescuttles, together with their glasses
and deadlights shall be of an approved construction. Those prone to
be damaged by fishing gear shall be suitably protected.
(5) Toughened safety glass or its equivalent shall
be used for the wheelhouse windows.
(6) The Administration may accept sidescuttles
and windows without deadlights in side and aft bulkheads of deckhouses
located on or above the working deck if satisfied that the safety
of the vessel will not be impaired.
