Clasifications Register Guidance Information - Ship Vibration and Noise Guidance Notes - Chapter 7 Machinery vibration - Section 1 Introduction

Section 1 Introduction

1.1 Measurements should be taken with the machine operating at normal temperatures.

1.2 The assessment criteria apply to all operating speeds and loads for which the running conditions are stable.

1.3 With the exception of main propulsion machinery, broadband measurements may be used for assessment if the vibration severity with the machinery operating is greater than three times the background value with the machine stopped. Otherwise narrowband analysis is required.

1.4 Narrowband severity should be assessed on the amplitudes of the frequency components generated by the machine itself.
