The limits defined should as far as practicable be observed.
However, an exception may be considered so long as they are agreed
between the Master and crew members, and provided that their health
and safety, and the safety of the vessel, is not compromised.
When considering whether an exception is appropriate, the Master
should give due regard to the associated duties being considered and
in this respect exceptions to persons undertaking watch keeping duties
and/or with safety critical duties would not be considered appropriate.
In allowing any such agreed exception and to ensure that a crew
member does not become fatigued, such exceptions shall be documented
and accompanied by commensurate rest arrangements.
