Clasifications Register Guidance Information - Naval Survey Guidance for Steel Ships, January 2001 - Chapter 1 Introduction - Section 8 Surveys

Section 8 Surveys

8.1 Naval Class Surveys will determine the material condition of the ship and confirm that it should remain efficient until the next survey. Although the Regulations refer to specific survey intervals, it should be noted that these intervals are flexible, and could be extended if adequate evidence is provided for a justification for the extension. It is therefore possible that Surveyors may be requested to predict the time at which efficiency will be impaired for certain structures, so that the Navy can plan future maintenance in conjunction with the operational needs.
