Section 5 Quality assurance system

5.1 General

5.1.1 The lifting or life-saving appliance designer/manufacturer shall have a documented Quality Assurance System with a ‘continuous improvement process’ in place. The quality assurance system shall be in compliance with a recognised National or International Standard, e.g. ISO 9001 Quality management systems – Requirements.

5.2 Continuous improvement

5.2.1 The continuous improvement process as part of the quality assurance system shall take account of the findings from operational and non-operational experience and feedback with a view to:
  1. further improvements in the design, operating procedures and instructions for use;
  2. further improvements to the maintenance of existing appliances in service;
  3. an adjustment of inspection intervals; and
  4. an adjustment of scheduled maintenance and replacements of parts.

5.2.2 The operational and non-operational experience and feedback may be provided through the designer’s/manufacturer’s own experiences and/or provided by the lifting or life-saving appliance’s Owner and/or Operator, maintainers, inspectors/Surveyors and competent persons or organisations.
