7 The quantity of pollution in exhaust gases

The quantity shown below of carbon monoxide (CO), nitric oxide (NOx), hydrocarbons (HC) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in exhaust gases generated by petrol and diesel engines, applies to engines without exhaust gas purifier. Stated values are average values and are to be considered representative of a large group of vehicles.

7.1 Petrol engines, cylinder volume 1000 - 2000 cm3

 Example of vehicle: Passenger cars

  Pollution in mg/sfootnote
Operating cycles CO NOx HC
Idling (600 - 1000 r/min) 100 - 150 1 - 2 10 - 15
Constant speed, 15 km/h 200 - 250 3,3 - 3,5 15 - 20
Constant speed, 30 km/h 250 - 300 7 - 8,5 15 - 20
Acceleration, 0,6 m/s2, (0 - 15 km/h) 250 - 300 5 - 6,5 15 - 20
