4.1.1 When oil is added to the drilling mud, provision is to be made to limit
the spread of oil on the unit, and to prevent the discharge of oil or oily residues
into the sea by the provision of de-oilers and suitably alarmed oil monitoring
devices.
4.1.2 Drilling bell nipples, flow lines, ditches, shale shakers, mud rooms and
mud tanks and pumps are to be designed for maximum volume throughput without
spillage. Equipment requiring maintenance is to have adequate spillage catchment
arrangements.
4.1.3 Pollution prevention arrangements should be such that the unit can comply
with the requirements of the relevant National Administrations in the country of
registration and in the area of operation, as applicable.
