(1) Fire extinguishers shall be of approved types.
The capacity of required portable fluid extinguishers shall be not
more than 13.5 l and not less than 9 l.
Other extinguishers shall not be in excess of the equivalent portability
of the 13.5 l fluid extinguisher and shall not be less
than the fire-extinguishing equivalent of a 9 l fluid
extinguisher. The Administration shall determine the equivalents of
fire extinguishers.
(2) Spare charges shall be provided to the satisfaction
of the Administration.
(3) Fire extinguishers containing an extinguishing
medium which, in the opinion of the Administration, either by itself
or under expected conditions of use, gives off toxic gases in such
quantities as to endanger persons shall not be permitted.
(4) Fire extinguishers shall be periodically examined
and subjected to such test as the Administration may require.
(5) Normally, one of the portable fire extinguishers
intended for use in any space shall be stowed near an entrance to
that space.
