An operation manual should be supplied and should include
a plan of the ventilation system, showing fans, supply air and exhaust
air openings and doors, ramps, hatches, etc. The location of the control
panel for the ro-ro cargo space ventilation system should also be
marked.
The plan should show the various options for operation of the
ventilation system. It should include details of the design air flow
and of the estimated number of different types of vehicles in the
different ro-ro cargo spaces under various loading and unloading conditions.
The plan should be periodically revised and/or supplemented
on the basis of the experience gained from the normal vehicle loading
and unloading conditions. A number of blank drawings should therefore
be kept on board.
On the basis of such experience, it
should also be possible to draw up guidelines for the maximum number
of vehicles that should be allowed to operate simultaneously.
Whenever possible, places which are sheltered from the air flow
should be indicated on the plans.
The air flow should
be indicated in colour on the plan in accordance with the following
recommended standard taken from ISO 5571, Identification Colours for
Schemes for Ventilation Systems:

The operation manual should include guidance for the service
and maintenance of the systems.
