4 Establishing CO2 Operational Index

In order to establish the CO2 index, the following main steps need to be executed:

  • .1 Define data sources for data collection.

  • .2 Collect data.

  • .3 Convert data to appropriate format.

  • .4 Calculate CO2 index.

For existing ships, the CO2 index should represent an average value of the energy efficiency of the ship operation over a period of one-year. Guidance on the calculation procedure for the index is provided in the Appendix.

For newly built ships the CO2 index should represent an average value of the energy efficiency of the ship operation over a period of not less than six months.
