17.6 Exclusion of air from vapour spaces

 Air should be removed from the cargo tanks and associated piping before loading and then subsequently excluded by:

  1. .1 introducing inert gas to maintain a positive pressure. Storage or production capacity of the inert gas should be sufficient to meet normal operating requirements and relief valve leakage. The oxygen content of inert gas should at no time be greater than 0.2% by volume; or

  2. .2 control of cargo temperatures such that a positive pressure is maintained at all times.
