1 The Marine Environment Protection Committee,
at its fifty-sixth session, and the Maritime Safety Committee, at
its eighty-third session, agreed to draw the attention of the parties
concerned to operational requirements of the IBC Code with
regard to the provision of information on cargoes carried in accordance
with that instrument.
“Where column o in the table of chapter 17 refers to this paragraph, the cargo’s
viscosity at 20°C shall be specified on a shipping document, and
if the cargo’s viscosity exceeds 50 mPa·s at 20°C
the temperature at which the cargo has a viscosity of 50 mPa·s
shall be specified in the shipping document.”
“Where column o in the table of chapter 17 refers to this paragraph, the cargo’s
melting point shall be indicated in the shipping document.”
4 This information is important not least in that
it enables interested parties to ascertain whether or not a pre-wash
will be required following unloading of the cargo.
5 Parties are requested to bring this circular
to the attention of their respective chemical, vegetable oil and oleochemical
industries, and draw attention to the importance of their fulfilling
their obligation to provide information to the carrier with regard
to viscosity and melting point of products prior to shipment, in accordance
with paragraphs 16.2.6 and 16.2.9 of the IBC Code.
