For symbols not defined in this section, refer to Ch 1, Sec 4.

a : Length, in mm, of the longer side of the plate panel as defined in Sec 5.

b : Length, in mm, of the shorter side of the plate panel as defined in Sec 5.

Αi : Area, in mm2, of the i-th plate element of the buckling panel.

n : Number of plate elements in the buckling panel.

σxi : Actual stress, in N/mm2, at the centroid of the i-th plate element in x direction, applied along the shorter edge of the buckling panel.

σyi : Actual stress, in N/mm2, at the centroid of the i-th plate element in y direction, applied along the longer edge of the buckling panel.

ψ : Edge stress ratio as defined in Sec 5.

τi : Αctual membrane shear stress, in N/mm2, at the centroid of the i-th plate element of the buckling panel.
