1 The Marine Environment Protection Committee, at its seventy-sixth session (10 to 17
June 2021), considered the draft amendments to MARPOL Annex VI
concerning mandatory goal-based technical and operational measures to reduce carbon
intensity of international shipping and exemption of unmanned non-self-propelled (UNSP)
barges from certain survey and certification requirements, which were circulated in
Circular Letter No.4350 (annex 3) on 20 December 2020, in accordance with article
16(2)(a) of MARPOL.
2 Following consideration of the draft amendments, MEPC 76 adopted resolution
MEPC.328(76) on the Amendments to MARPOL Annex VI (2021 Revised MARPOL Annex VI).
3 In view of the significant renumbering of regulations and paragraphs in the 2021
Revised MARPOL Annex VI, the Marine Environment Protection Committee, at its
seventy-seventh session (22 to 26 November 2021), approved the attached circular, which
provides, for ease of reference by all users, cross-referencing tables between the 2021
Revised MARPOL Annex VI and the
previous MARPOL Annex VIfootnote.
4 Tables "A" and "B" provide the correlation between the paragraph numbers in regulation
2 (Definitions) of the previous version of MARPOL Annex VI and their corresponding
paragraph numbers under the 2021 Revised MARPOL Annex VI, while
table "C" illustrates the correlation between both versions of regulation numbers in
chapters 4 and 5.
5 Member Governments are invited to disseminate this circular to their maritime
Administration officials, industry and interested organizations with the aim of
facilitating the smooth implementation of the 2021 Revised MARPOL Annex VI.
