RECALLING Article 15(j) of the Convention on the International
Maritime Organization concerning the functions of the Assembly in
relation to regulations and guidelines concerning maritime safety
and the prevention and control of marine pollution from ships and
other matters concerning the effect of shipping on the marine environment,
RECALLING FURTHER that, at its twenty-third session, when
adopting resolution A.962(23), it
requested the Marine Environment Protection Committee to keep this
matter under review with a view to further developing the Guidelines
in the future,
RECOGNIZING the need to keep the IMO Guidelines on Ship
Recycling updated in the light of experience gained in their implementation,
HAVING CONSIDERED the recommendations made by the Marine
Environment Protection Committee at its fifty-third session:
1 ADOPTS amendments to the IMO Guidelines on Ship
Recycling (resolution A.962(23)),
as set out in the annex to the present resolution;
2 URGES Governments to apply forthwith the IMO
Guidelines on Ship Recycling (resolution
A.962(23)), as amended by this resolution;
3 REQUESTS the Marine Environment Protection Committee
to keep the IMO Guidelines on Ship Recycling under review and to amend
them as necessary in the light of experience gained from their implementation.
