Life-saving appliances and equipment should be positioned
or stowed to the satisfaction of the Administration to provide for:
-
.1 distribution at the most easily accessible
and/or readily available locations with due regard being given to
the particular characteristics, shape and configuration of the unit.
The distribution should be such that a fire or other accident in one
part of the unit would not be likely to immobilize all the appliances
(see 9.3.5);
-
.2 the safe and rapid use of each device or piece
of equipment under emergency conditions;
-
.3 the marshalling of persons on board at embarkation
stations; and
-
.4 such launching devices which might be considered
necessary to launch survival craft under emergency conditions. Means
should be provided for actuating the descent mechanism from a position
on board the survival craft. Means should also be provided for on-load
release from rigid survival craft and automatic release from other
craft.
