Circular

  1 The Maritime Safety Committee, at its eighty-fifth session (26 November to 5 December 2008), by resolution MSC.268(85), adopted amendments to chapters VI and VII of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974, as amended, to make the provisions of the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code mandatory under the Convention.

  2 Paragraph 1.5 of the Code provides guidance to the competent authority or competent authorities, as appropriate, on granting exemptions.

  3 A communication has been received from the Government of Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of) concerning exemptions which, in accordance with provision 1.5.2 of the Code, is circulated to SOLAS Contracting Governments for information and action, as appropriate.
