11.1 In the design phase of new ships, the designer/yard
may predict by calculations, qualified assessments or the like, the
expected noise levels in areas of the ship likely to have noise levels
over acceptable levels from chapter 4.
11.2 The noise predictions referred to in paragraph
11.1 should be used in the design phase to identify possible areas
in the ship where special consideration must be given to noise reduction
measures in order to observe the noise level limits stipulated in section 4.2 of the Code.
11.3 The noise predictions and any noise reduction
measures planned in the design phase should be documented, especially
in cases where, according to the noise predictions, it must be expected
that compliance with any of the noise level limits of section 4.2 of the Code will be difficult to achieve, despite
reasonable technical initiatives.
