Responsibility for interpretation of the IGC Code requirements for the
purpose of issuing an International Certificate of Fitness for the Carriage of
Liquefied Gases in Bulkfootnote lies with the Government of the state whose flag the ship is
entitled to flyfootnote. In this respect, attention is drawn to the IMO document MSC/Circular.406/Rev.1 – Guidelines on Interpretation of the IBC Code and the IGC Code and Guidelines for the Uniform Application
of the Survival Requirements of the IBC and IGC Codes – (Adopted on 29 June 1990) dated 29th June, 1990 Guidelines on
Interpretations of the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of
Ships Carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk (IBC Code) and the International Code
for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk
(IGC Code) and Guidelines for the Uniform Application of the Survival
Requirements of the IBC and IGC Codes. LR will apply these interpretations
for Classification purposes, where applicable. Attention is also drawn to the fact
that LR is authorised to issue International Certificates of Fitness on behalf of
several National Authorities.
