Navigation

Navigation introduction

To begin navigation, click on the Rulefinder Contents tab.

Open the navigation tree by clicking on the top level node of your interest (see 2.2 below for explanation of nodes and topics). The Rulefinder Table of Contents (TOC) is organised with multiple headings for you to choose from. See Figure 3.

Nodes and topics

Nodes are the general folders that exist at the highest levels of the Table Of Contents (TOC) and are illustrated as books. For example, in the screen shot below, (Figure 4), Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships, Part 1 Regulations and Chapter 1 General Regulations are all nodes. Individual articles such as Section 1..., Section 2..., etc., are topics. Topics are illustrated as documents.

Displaying contents of nodes and topics

Click on the required node or topic to display the text associated with the particular object selected.

Navigation through TOC nodes

1. Expand a node by clicking the plus sign (+) to the left of the node.

2. Select one of the topics to view the document contents.

3. Collapse a node by clicking the minus sign (–) to the left of the node.

4. You can also navigate through topics and nodes by clicking one of the items inside the node or Parent topic. See Figure 5.

Figure 5 Example of Node Navigation Menu

Note: If you want to retrace your movements, click on either the Back arrow icon on the HTML Help menu, or else select Back either from HTML Help toolbar or from the Options menu bar.

If you want to go forward, select Forward from the Options menu bar.

Note: Clicking the plus sign (+) will open the nodes below that page but will not open that page. You must click on the actual node itself in order to display it.

Closing and reopening the TOC

The top left hand Hide icon on the HTML Help bar allows you to close the TOC.

To subsequently display the selected topic text at screen size after hiding the TOC, you can maximise the screen by either clicking on the full page icon in the top right hand corner, or double clicking on the title bar on the top of the page. To reopen the TOC, select the Show icon.

Note that you are in the same location in the TOC as you were before closing the frame.

Expanding the TOC

You can change the width of the TOC by positioning your cursor on the right frame division to the right of the TOC, and dragging it to the left or right.

Navigating with the keyboard

You can navigate the Library TOC and the content pane using key combinations and the directional keys on your keyboard. See Table 1.
