This appendix specifies conditions and basic calculations
for ventilation in ro-ro cargo spaces in ships where vehicles with
internal combustion engines operate. The purpose of the ventilation
is to dilute and remove exhaust gases generated by the vehicles in
order to protect crews, shore personnel and passengers from being
exposed to harmful levels of pollutants.
Regulations which relate to ventilation in ro-ro cargo spaces
should also be considered. For example requirements for a minimum
number of air changes with regard to vehicles and other cargo, such
as dangerous goods, and stipulations for maximum permitted noise levels
should be met.
