1 Analytical detection limits (DLanalytical) are based on
Relevant Chemical concentrations in ballast water, [RC]BW.
2 Detection limits suggested are related to critical values of
[RC]BW (CVPNEC or CVDNEL-DMEL) that must not be
exceeded in order to keep PEC/PNEC and RCR (exposure / DNEL or DMEL) below 1.
3 The relative sensitivity, Sr, of analytical methods used to quantify
[RC]BW is calculated per equation 1.

If Sr is above 1 for both CVPNEC and
CVDNEL-DMEL, the analytical method used can be deemed as satisfactory in
first approximation.
4 Nevertheless, the detection limits suggested below are based on a
conservative Sr value ≥ 50, whenever possible. An effort was made to
harmonize DLanalytical value for chemicals belonging to the same family.
Analytical detection limit suggested (DLanalytical, in μg/L)
for Relevant Chemicals listed in the IMO database and relative sensitivity
(Sr) calculated with equation (1)
