Section 7 Means of escape

7.1 General

7.1.1 In machinery spaces, boiler rooms or under deck pump rooms, two means of escape are generally to be provided. A second means of escape may be dispensed with if:

  1. The total floor area (average length x average width at the level of floor plating) of subject space does not exceed 35 m2 and

  2. The distance between each point where servicing or maintenance operations are carried out and the exit, or stairs providing access to the outside, is not greater than 5 metres.
