1.1.1 All repairs
are to be carried out to the satisfaction of the Surveyor. Therefore,
in the first instance, the Surveyor should be satisfied that the ship
repairers possess the necessary capabilities to achieve the required
standard of workmanship.
1.1.2 For locations
where adequate repair facilities are not immediately available, consideration
may be given to allow the ship to proceed directly to a suitable repair
facility. Under certain circumstances, this may require temporary
repairs for the intended voyage.
1.1.3 Damages or
wastage which are considered by the attending Surveyor to not immediately
affect the ship’s structural integrity may be temporarily repaired
and a suitable Condition of Class imposed.
1.1.4 When it is
proposed that significant structural repairs are to be carried out
afloat at the repair yard, the Surveyor should advise the Owner that
consideration must be given to maintaining the longitudinal and transverse
strength of the ship.
1.1.5 Consideration
must also be given to the affect of any repair on machinery installations
and ship’s systems.
