3.1.1 When LR classification
of a new vessel is proposed, the local LR Manager is to be satisfied
that the building facilities, practices and equipment are such to
ensure that the yard concerned can build vessels in compliance with
the requirements of LR’s Rules for Naval Ships.
3.1.2 The local LR
office is to ensure that the following documents are completed and
sent to the yard for agreement and signature as early as possible.
It should be understood that these Forms constitute LR’s formal
contract with the Prime Contractor.

3.1.3 The Request
Form 2500(N) should be used for all naval vessels.
3.1.4 A copy of the
Guidance Notes (Ch 21 Appendix 2 Form 2500(N) Guidance Notes) should be
distributed to the Prime Contractor along with the Request Form 2500(N),
to assist them in deciding what services they require from LR. The
local LR office should also assist the Prime Contractor by completing
the Request Form as far as possible.
3.1.5 The local Manager
is to be satisfied that LR can provide all the services requested
by the Prime Contractor before signing the Request Form.
3.1.6 Once signed
by the Prime Contractor and the local Manager, the original Request
Form and ‘Statement of Charges’ should be forwarded to
LR Headquarters in all cases.
3.1.7 Where an order
to LR class is cancelled after a Request Form has been signed by the
Prime Contractor, the local LR office is to inform Headquarters who
will advise the local office of any fees they require to recover from
the Prime Contractor for work undertaken prior to the cancellation.
