Section 3 Request for marine services during construction

3.1 General

3.1.1 When LR classification of a new vessel is proposed, the local LR Manager is to be satisfied that the building facilities, practices and equipment are such to ensure that the yard concerned can build vessels in compliance with the requirements of LR’s Rules for Naval Ships.

3.1.2 The local LR office is to ensure that the following documents are completed and sent to the yard for agreement and signature as early as possible. It should be understood that these Forms constitute LR’s formal contract with the Prime Contractor.

  1. Quotation letter.

  2. Statement of Charges.

  3. Current Terms and Conditions.

  4. New Building Contract Form 2500(N) - Ch 20 Appendix 1 Request for Services (Naval Vessels).

3.1.3 The Request Form 2500(N) should be used for all naval vessels.

3.1.4 A copy of the Guidance Notes (Ch 21 Appendix 2 Form 2500(N) Guidance Notes) should be distributed to the Prime Contractor along with the Request Form 2500(N), to assist them in deciding what services they require from LR. The local LR office should also assist the Prime Contractor by completing the Request Form as far as possible.

3.1.5 The local Manager is to be satisfied that LR can provide all the services requested by the Prime Contractor before signing the Request Form.

3.1.6 Once signed by the Prime Contractor and the local Manager, the original Request Form and ‘Statement of Charges’ should be forwarded to LR Headquarters in all cases.

3.1.7 Where an order to LR class is cancelled after a Request Form has been signed by the Prime Contractor, the local LR office is to inform Headquarters who will advise the local office of any fees they require to recover from the Prime Contractor for work undertaken prior to the cancellation.
