5.1.1 Surveyors are
required to attend the trials of any vessel being built under Special
Survey to assess the following items:
- Anchoring and mooring equipment.
- Hull watertight integrity, valves, seals and glands.
- Weathertight integrity of large openings that may be operated
at sea.
5.1.2 The following
items are to be examined before and after operation on sea trials
to check for deformation or defects:
- Equipment seats and foundations after operation of equipment in
the normal working environment.
- Large ballast tanks after filling at sea.
5.1.3 Testing of
windlass is to be held in accordance with the instructions in Vol 2, Pt 1, Ch 3 Requirements for Design, Construction, Installation and Sea Trials of Engineering Systems of the Rules for Naval
Ships. In addition, it is expected that the Surveyors will generally
examine the ship during the trials period to ensure that there is
no unusual vibration during service. Although it is stressed that
LR’s Rules do not cover certain technical characteristics, which
may include vibration, and that LR cannot assume responsibility for
this aspect, the Owner or Builder may request advice. For any such
request, advice should be sought from Headquarters, providing any
relevant details noted by the Surveyors. Reference can also be made
to LR’s Guidance Notes - Acceptable Vibration Levels (Shipboard
Vibration).
