Section 6 Masts

6.1 General

6.1.1 The majority of masts on naval ships are plated, but lattice masts may still exist on smaller ships. In both cases, they should be considered a classification matter as they contribute to overall effectiveness of the intended role of the ship.

6.1.2 Examination of masts will determine their structural integrity for the purpose of carrying naval equipment and supporting loads from RAS equipment where fitted.

6.1.3 Areas that can trap water internally and externally are to be carefully examined for corrosion.
