6.2.1 There
is to be no direct access from the freeboard deck to machinery or
other spaces below the freeboard deck. Indirect access may be arranged
via a space or passageway fitted with an outer door having a sill
not less than 600 mm high and an inner door having a sill not less
than 380 mm high. The inner door is to be self-closing and gastight.
The space or passageway between the two doors is to be adequately
drained. It is desirable, however, that access to spaces below the
freeboard deck is arranged from a position above the superstructure
deck. Where it is necessary to provide an emergency escape trunk which
cannot terminate within a superstructure space, the arrangements for
maintaining the integrity of the hatch or outlet are to be approved
by Clasifications Register (hereinafter referred to as 'LR').
