2.1.1 Where wood sheathing is fitted, the material is to be of good quality, well
seasoned and free from sapwood, and the thickness is to be not less than 65 mm. The
plank widths should not normally exceed 150 mm. Thwartship planks are to be laid at the
ends of deckhouses and at break of deck. Fastenings are to be sunk below the surface of
the planking and covered with turned dowels, and the whole to be thoroughly bedded in a
suitable composition. All weather decks are to be caulked and payed.

waterway is to be not less than 7,5 mm thick.
2.1.3 Welded studs are to be not less than 9,5 mm diameter, and are to be coated
with suitable composition before the planking is laid. Bolts used instead of studs may
be 12,5 mm diameter galvanised. If the steel deck is penetrated for bolts, the deck is
to be hose tested in accordance with Pt 3, Ch 8 Superstructures, Deckhouses and Bulwarks.
2.1.4 Where trawl winches are set back from the aft end, wear bars are to be fitted to
minimise excessive wear resulting from the winch cables rubbing against the deck.
