1.1.1 LR’s
Regulations require that when it is intended to build a vessel for
classification, constructional plans, and direct calculations if necessary,
together with particulars of hull and equipment as detailed in the
relevant sections of the appropriate Rules, are to be submitted for
approval before the work is commenced. Submissions direct from the
Builder to the Plan Approval Office should be adopted as standard
procedure, unless local conditions indicate that the submission of
data through the building port Surveyors would be to everyone’s
overall benefit (e.g. where Ch 3, 1.1 Submission of plans and direct calculations 1.1.4 applies)
whereupon suitable arrangements should be made locally. The designers/Builders
should be encouraged to send a copy of the list of plans submitted
to the local office. In all cases, liaison between the local Surveyors
and the Plan Approval Office is to be maintained. It is also the responsibility
of the local Surveyors to liaise with the Builder to ensure that only
the information required by the Rules is submitted to the Plan Approval
Office, and to keep the Plan Approval Office advised of the Builder’s
commitments and schedules.
1.1.2 The number
of copies of each plan to be submitted may vary with the Builder’s
and/or Owner’s requirements, but only two copies will be retained
by LR, i.e. one in Headquarters and one at the local LR office. The
Builder’s name, yard number and plan designation should be clearly
shown on all plans.
1.1.3 Revised plans
embodying minor alterations should all be dealt with locally. Working
drawings should be dealt with locally, unless indicating major departure
from previously approved plans. Additional fees will be involved when
further plans are submitted for approval or supporting calculations
required by the Rules are not forwarded.
1.1.4 When the language
on documents and/or plans to be submitted to Headquarters is other
than English, the Surveyors are to make an English translation before
forwarding the documents and/or plans.
1.1.5 When handling
and storing plans and documents whose content is classified, the Naval
Authority requirements regarding security are to be complied with
at all locations.
