Section 1 Intermediate Surveys

1.1 General

1.1.1 Survey requirements are given in Vol 1, Pt 1, Ch 3, 3.2 Hull of the Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Naval Ships (hereinafter referred to as the Rules for Naval Ships).

1.1.2 The relevant part of the survey checklist is to be used when carrying out this survey.

1.1.3 The survey should be held in conjunction with an Annual Survey, or alternatively:

1.1.4 The Owner/Naval Authority may elect to carry out the survey on a progressive basis between the third and fourth anniversary of the six year cycle. This is acceptable provided that the full requirements of an Annual Survey are held at the third anniversary and the additional items required for the Intermediate Survey are completed by the fourth anniversary, at which time a further Annual Survey is to be held.

1.1.5 Where salt-water ballast spaces/tanks are required to be examined, the preparation for survey should be of a similar standard and extent to that required for Special Surveys.

1.1.6 Upon satisfactory completion of the Intermediate Survey, the Certificate of Class is to be endorsed in the appropriate section. In the case of an incomplete survey, the Certificate of Class is not to be endorsed and the outstanding items for completion of the survey are to be noted on the Interim Certificate and the new date of survey is to be recommended for assignment on completion.
