1.4.1 For craft
to which subdivision and damage stability requirements apply, precautions
are to be taken to prevent progressive flooding between compartments
resulting from damage to piping systems. For this purpose, piping
systems are to be located inboard of the assumed extent of damage
applicable to the craft type.
1.4.2 Where
it is not practicable to locate piping systems as required by Pt 15, Ch 2, 1.4 Prevention of progressive flooding in damage condition 1.4.1, the following precautions are
to be taken:
-
Bilge suction pipes
are to be provided with non-return valves of approved type.
-
Other piping systems
are to be provided with shut-off valves capable of being operated
from positions accessible in the damage condition, or from above the
bulkhead deck where required by the Rules.
These valves are to be located in the compartment containing
the open end or in a suitable position such that the compartment may
be isolated in the event of damage to the piping system.
1.4.3 Where
subdivision and damage stability requirements apply and where penetration
of watertight divisions by pipes, ducts, trunks or other penetrations
is necessary, arrangements are to be made to maintain the watertight
integrity.
