Section 3 Buckling

3.1 General

3.1.1 In general, all areas of the structure are to meet the buckling requirements for the design stresses calculated according to Vol 1, Pt 5, Ch 3 Motion Response.

3.2 Buckling requirements

3.2.1 Requirements for buckling are to be calculated according to the following Sections of the Complementary Rules:

  1. Vol 1, Pt 6, Ch 2, 4 Vibration control of the Rules for Naval Ships

  2. Vol 1, Pt 6, Ch 5, 3 Scantling determination for NS2 and NS3 ships of the Rules for Naval Ships

  3. Pt 6, Ch 7, 4 Buckling control of the Rules for Special Service Craft

  4. Pt 3, Ch 4, 7 Hull buckling strength of the Rules for Ships

  5. Additional requirements for specific ship types are also to be complied with.
